- What is the cost of the procedure?
The cost really depends on what type of correction you need on your eyes. That is why you need to see a doctor for an evaluation.
How soon can I go back to work?
Most people are able to go back to work the next day.
- Is there a guarantee that I will not have to wear glasses or contact lenses?
Absolutely not!!! There are no guarantees in any part of medicine. We can give you odds, rather than good or bad, but as a rule, people under 7 diopters who have LASIK will have a 96% chance of success and will have less than a 3% chance for enhancement. People who have RK will have a 16% chance of having to have an enhancement.
- Can a person who ONLY needs glasses to read benefit from LASIK?
At the present time no. It is being done in other countries but in the United States the FDA has not approved a laser treatment for presbyopia.
- Is there an age limit for surgery?
There is not an age limit but there is a minimum age of 18.
- Is the surgery painful?
As a general rule no, the surgery does not hurt. Most patients get a prescription for a pain drop just in case.
- How soon may I resume my normal physical activities?
You may resume MOST physical activities the next day as long as you wear protective eye wear. The only exception is swimming and scuba diving. You can not swim for two weeks or scuba dive for six weeks.
- Does LASIK only correct nearsightedness or can it correct astigmatism and farsightedness also?
Yes, LASIK can correct astigmatism as well as farsightedness now.
